Victorian hand holding dog clip charm holder necklace pendant
A beautifully ornate Victorian hand necklace pendant, the figural right hand holding a swivel dog clip ready to be put it to work holding your wax seal necklace charms, or rings when not worn on your fingers, as a charm holder.
The chains are sold separately here.
The hand, detailed on both sides, has a lovely cuff, a ring on her index finger, and is holding both a small orb and the dog clip between her thumb and index finger.
The chain slips through a large opening under the pear and measures almost 1/4" (9mm x 5mm) so will accommodate most any chain.
The dog clip charm holder, or swivel lock fob holder is reminiscent of the Georgian and Victorian Eras when both ladies and gentlemen would clasp their fobs, watches, charms and wax seals to a swivel dog clip that was attached to a short chain attached to a waist coat, the swivel used to keep the chain from twisting so it would lie flat.

- symbolism -
The hand is the tool of tools. It represents strength, power and protection. It's also symbolic of loyalty, strength, romance, generosity, hospitality and stability. Historically, the hand has been and continues to be symbolic of greeting and friendship.
For centuries, the shape of the pear has represented the female form in the art world, and has been symbolic of femininity and fruitfulness.
In many cultures, the pear is a symbol of affection, inner peace, comfort, longevity and the Chinese believe it to be symbolic of immortality.
We have borrowed the Victorian hand from history and and altered it before reproducing it in sterling silver to share with you.
