A gorgeous lobster claw necklace pendant, the crusher claw to be precise ... endlessly interesting jewelry made with a battered little lobster claw found on the shores of Newport, RI, a found object, a discovery from the deep.

The lobster claw is symbolic of power, strength and protection.  Lobsters use their claws to battle their predators and to catch their food and the claws are different, serving two different purposes ...the larger claw is called the crusher claw and it does just what its name suggests, it crushes and it can exert up to 100 pounds of pressure per square inch! it is powerful!
the smaller claw is called the pincer claw and while it's not as strong its role is equally important because its tiny sharp teeth rip food apart.

- approximate measurement - 1 1/2” (35mm) including one loop x 1/2“ (13mm)
at widest and thickness almost 3/8" (8mm) at thickest
- the lobster claw is naturally textured on both sides

- metal - it's solid (a bit heavy) sterling silver (.925 silver
) or sterling bronze mix - please select
- charm only, the chain shown is sold separately here and a thinner one is here
- photographed with a US dime and inch ruler for scale

I sand cast the lobster claw found between the tides in Newport, RI.  After making a sand mold for the claw I melted sterling silver (or the sterling silver and bronze alloy mix) and poured it into the empty sand mold.
After sand casting I cleaned it up, added the suspension loop and finished it to highlight the gorgeous details ... hand crafted jewelry when how it's made matters.
