Often called a besom broom, besom from the old English word for a broom made from twigs tied to a handle, often associated with witches and the deep connection between the broom and ancient practices.

Broom symbolism -
- a broom by your front door - sweeping with a broom is cleaning by removing unwanted dirt, and spiritually a cleansing of the threshold to ward off unwanted energy and sweeping away negative influences.
- as a talisman … to keep you safe on journeys.
- as a wedding tradition, couples "jumping the broom" at weddings solemnizes their union and is symbolic of a fresh start and new life together.
- the broom is a tool for spiritual journeys representing the transcendence of physical limitations and embarking on spiritual journeys.
- it is believed by some to promote good harvests.

Broom care, especially if used with food or beverages - hand wash with dishwashing liquid and towel dry.  Do not put in the dishwasher or the microwave.

I’ve taken a branch from my very favorite tree, the camelephant, a weeping white pine and cut the branch wood into 3 almost 2” sections (to later assemble as the broom handle) and wrapped the needles to resemble the broom bristles.
The broom parts had to be in less than 2” sections because the sand mold measures just 2” so next I sand cast the 4 broom sections, building 4 molds with packed sand, torch melting the metal and pouring it into the cavity of the sand mold.
The cooled metal sections were then removed, I cleaned up the castings and then soldered the sections together to create the broom.
The finished silver broom was then sent off for casting in food safe pewter.

Here’s a video of the sand casting process on my instagram
