A wonderful reversible sterling silver sun and moon necklace pendant, full of texture ... meaningful wax seal jewelry, inspired by historic headstones.

- symbolism -
On a headstone, in a cemetery, the sun is symbolic of life and the moon is symbolic of death, rebirth, and victory.
The sun rises on this life and the moon shines on the dust of what remains when we are no longer. (credit: the Gravestone Girls)

- charm metal - sterling silver (.925 silver)
- photographed with a US dime and inch ruler for scale

- shown suspended on a sterling silver cable chain with a spring ring clasp sold separately

I've sculpted, in wax, the reversible sun and crescent moon based on images depicted on actual historic headstones.  I chose to sand cast it to give it the texture of an old headstone. After sand casting it in sterling silver I finished it up rustically all in my own little studio ... hand crafted jewelry because how it's made matters.

This reversible pendant is ideal on the swivel dog clip, as shown in the photo, because it will flip front and back as you move throughout the day.

More chains, charm catchers and swivel dog clips are available here.  And if you'd prefer an oxidized chain (antiqued) to the shiny chain shown, simply make this request at checkout in the "add a note to your order" box.

I've included photos of the historic headstones that inspired me to carve this pendant.  The crescent moon man in the moon face was found on the headstone of Capt. William Hales (or Halls?) who departed this life in 1790.  The sun face was found on the headstone of Mr. John Foster who departed this life in 1681.  Both were buried in Massachusetts Cemeteries.

Impressed with history!
