oyster shell ghost necklace pendant
A happy mistake that will continue to haunt me, a ghost from the ocean ... a wonderfully unique oyster shell ghost necklace pendant ... endlessly interesting spooky jewelry made with an oyster shell found on the shores of Newport, RI.
Fun summerween jewelry
Meet Ostrica, the oyster shell ghost, so named after the Italian word for oyster.
She's rather quiet, very secretive, with a tendency to keep her thoughts to herself, just as you'd expect from one named after an "oyster."
- approximate measurement - almost 1” (23mm) including both loops x 5/8“ (16mm)
- just the ghost shell fragment measures approximately 5/8" x 5/8"
- the oyster shell ghost is naturally textured on both sides
- metal - sterling silver (.925 silver
)
*** charm only - the chain is sold separately here
- photographed with a US dime and inch ruler for scale
- please note, sand cast individually so they will vary slightly from the photos
I built the oyster mold in packed sand, added a channel through which to pour the molten silver into the mold cavity and added vents to release the air when the molten silver was poured in … all good, or so I thought, but it wasn’t.
The oyster shell sand mold didn’t fill completely with silver, due to some mistake on my part, so I was ready to melt it for another sand casting until I saw something wonderful in the failed casting … once again embracing it for what it was, or could be, instead of what it wasn’t, a full silver oyster pendant.
I altered the shape a wee bit, embellished it a wee bit and finished it into a lovely pendant … hand crafted jewelry when how it's made matters.
