medieval crow intaglio wax seal pendant - rustic wax seal jewelry
A wonderfully rustic medieval crow or raven wax seal intaglio necklace pendant ... a new relic from a medieval relic.
- description -
Crows are very social birds, sometimes forming flocks in the millions. They are inquisitive and sometimes mischievous, good learners, problem-solvers and are considered to be among the worlds most intelligent animals.
We often consider a crow to be an omen... good or bad, depending on the context.
- symbolism -
In heraldry, the crow represents a strategist in battle, one who is watchful for friends and divine providence.
- approximate intaglio measurement - 3/4” (20mm)
- pendant thickness - 1/8" (almost 4mm) - it's rather hefty
- wax seal charm metal - sterling silver (.925 silver)
- charm only, the necklace chains are sold separately here.
- photographed with a US dime and a one inch ruler for scale
I've sand cast just the crow intaglio portion of a European medieval (14th - 15th century) bronze chessman wax seal, cleaned it up and attached rings for suspension as a pendant. Hand crafted one at a time in my little studio because how it's made matters.
Find an impression of the original medieval crow wax seal in sterling silver, available here.
The original medieval chessman handled seal is not available for purchase.
Impressed with history!
