- symbolism - It is said that fish are symbolic of rebirth, fertility, change, luck and health. We associate fish with the element of water which signifies stability, balance, and tranquility.
The original little fish were carved in ivory or bone and were imported from China to England and Europe back in the late 1700’s - early 1800’s as gaming chips, counters or gambling tokens used for keeping score and bidding in card games … like lottery tickets, whist, loo, ombre or quadrille … none of which I know how to play.
I’ve borrowed these sweet little fish from the past and sand cast them in sterling silver my little studio to create endlessly interesting wearable history... the fish are individually sand cast so each will be different with "imperfections" from the sand.
Hand crafted jewelry, from my hands to yours, because I believe how it's made matters.
