antique unique watch fob - Los Angeles Commandery No9 Saratoga 1907 fo
Here's an interesting and unique reversible antique brass panel watch fob, each of the four ornate oval panels with a different image, all related to the Los Angeles Commandery No9 Saratoga in 1907, though I'm not actually sure what that means.
- description -
The antique paneled watch fob was once a decorative accessory that gentlemen would wear, clipped their jacket or vest, when they were all dolled up in their glad rags.
This fob chain has four decorative oval reversible panels, two different sizes, with a different image on each front panel and words of description on the reverse, topped with a dog clip and all linked together with jump rings.
- fob panels metal - brass
- jump rings and dog clip - brass and the dog clip does not swivel
- panel sizes - all measure 1 1/8" (30mm) width and heights vary with 2 smaller 7/8" (20mm) and the other 2 larger 1" (24mm)
- length - 5 3/4" (145mm) including dog clip
1st panel - LOS ANGELES COMMANDERY No9 * SARATOGA 1907
- nothing on the reverse
2nd panel - a building with palm trees
- reverse - "San Gabriel Mission near Los Angeles"
3rd panel - surf on a beach
- reverse - "Pacific Ocean Sixteen Miles from Los Angeles"
4th panel - a cluster of oranges
- reverse - "A Cluster of California Oranges"
I believe the watch fob chain dates back to the early 1900's since the date on the top panel is 1907.
Watch fob chains have been popular since the 16th century as a means to connect a pocket watch to a buttonhole or waistcoat so that the pocket watch could quickly be retrieved from the pocket. As time passed, the fobs and fob chains became more decorative, jewelry-like and more of a fashion statement.
This is an antique and it does show signs of age and wear so please study the photos carefully and ask any questions because antiques sales are final - non returnable/refundable
Impressed with history!
