A unique French 19th century paper cartonnage box -  a round lidded box, the lid with a three dimensional diorama with a boy, house, trees, gate all under domed glass lid, the sides decorated with a pretty green paper.  On the bottom of the box, hand written in pencil, is 1823 - 1833 Charles ?Stardler? Auburn, NH

These souvenir boxes were constructed with inexpensive materials so not many have survived. The 3D was achieved by spacing the cutouts on different planes and this scene has been heightened with watercolor.
