I've sand cast the medieval casket keys in my little studio by creating a mold in packed sand, torch melting the metal and pouring it into the cavity of the sand mold. The cooled metal is then removed and the castings require quite a lot of clean up before being finished and fashioned into jewelry.   It’s a process done one at a time, a new sand mold is made for each and every casting.
Each solid dimensional piece will be unique and you can expect to see evidence of the process in every piece of jewelry, texture left behind from the sand molds.  Some may see these as imperfections but I see them as one of a kind beautiful.

While sand casting one medieval skeleton key the silver didn't completely flow and left a gap. I thought about melting the silver and trying it again but figured there was more to learn by trying to fix it.
I could have used silver to fix it seamlessly but wanted to embrace the imperfection so used bronze instead and I love the two tone result ... there's much to be said for embracing our imperfections.

It’s hand crafted jewelry because I believe how it's made matters.

Impressed with history!
