A tisket, a tasket, a little all seeing eye basket fob wax seal necklace pendant ... one you might even use to seal your letters and cards with melted sealing wax ... endlessly interesting one of a kind jewelry.
- approximate measurement - 3/4" x 1/2" (20mm x 12mm)
- photographed with a US dime and an inch ruler for scale
- wax seal charm metal - sterling silver (.925 silver)
- this listing is for the charm only - chains sold separately here
This little basket began its life in the Victorian era (1837 - 1901), also a tiny fob wax seal but originally held a pale blue glass intaglio of a tiny anchor on which sat a little bird barely held in a gilt basket fob. The antique basket fob was truly well loved and misshapen which caused the glass intaglio to pop out often. It was one of these times that I went to put it back but did something wrong and the glass intaglio shattered ... I've included a photo of the original.
I adored the woven details of the little basket, the little open weave basket around the top edging and the ribbed handle and I was shattered that it broke but decided it needed to live on so I had it molded and worked with the wax to carve a new intaglio basket bottom that has been cast in sterling silver. The basket charm is still a bit misshapen as I decided that was part of the charm.
Impressed with history!
