The Wolf Moon full moon occurs every January, so named after the howling wolves, hungry because food can be scarce of food at this often cold, often snowy, time of year.

In heraldry, the wolf, a noble and courageous animal, is symbolic of the rewards of perseverance in long sieges or hard industry. He’s also a symbol of guardianship, ritual, loyalty and spirit.
