corroded split lock washer dangle earrings ... rustic silver brutalist
Intentionally imperfect rusty old corroded split lock washer dangle earrings ... simple yet bold, naturally raw textured, rustic and minimal ... sterling silver brutalist elevated hardware jewelry.
The humble split lock washer, also known as a spring lock washer, is a type of washer that helps prevent fasteners like bolts and nuts from loosening due to vibrations. It's a washer that is split or cut, not solid or flat all around, with the two ends bent slightly outward, creating a spring-like effect.
Not always seen but so important, holding things together, protective, lessening the impact of something negative or difficult ... maybe just like you or someone dear to you.

Found between the cracks at a busy local boat ramp, I've sand cast the humble split lock washer ... I’ve created molds with packed sand, torch melted the metal and poured it into the cavity of the sand mold. The cooled metal is then removed and the castings requires clean up before being finished and fashioned into jewelry. It’s a process done one at a time, a new sand mold is made each time a casting is made.
Hand crafted jewelry, one at a time, because I believe how it's made matters.
