Be ever optimistic with a historic Great Britain Royal Navy fouled anchor wax seal necklace pendant - a fouled anchor is difficult to raise.  The fouled anchor is surrounded by a Latin legend that begins on the bottom of the seal, marked with a tiny flower followed by
SIGIL: OFFI: MAG: ADMIR: MAG: BR: & c.
It is the SEAL of the OFFICE of the LORD HIGH ADMIRAL of GREAT BRITAIN once used by an Admiralty clerk on official papers.
Important historic wax seal jewelry.

- symbolism -
In heraldry, the anchor is a symbol of well grounded hope, salvation and steadfastness.
The fouled anchor is symbolic of ships, seamanship and the seafaring tradition.

- approximate measurement - 5/8" by 3/4” (16mm x 20mm)
- wax seal charm metal - sterling silver (.925 silver)
- photographed with a US dime and a one inch ruler for scale

- select the necklace chain length or just the charm at checkout

Impressed from an historic British desk wax seal that dates back to the 18th - 19th century.  Based on the grainy texture of the matrix it was believed to be a find from the banks of the the Thames.

Impressed with history!

I continue to research this historical desk seal once belonging to an admiral in the British Royal Navy. The handle is turned bone and the matrix steel, suggesting that this is very, very old. If you have any information about Royal Navy desk seals please do share!  It seems so odd that such an important wax seal, important piece of history, was available for me to purchase.
