This is the crest of the Wright family of Essex, according to research in British heraldry.  The name Wright is an occupational surname that originated in England and was derived from the Old English word wryhta or wyrhta, meaning worker or shaper of wood, woodworker, carpenter, and craftsman. Wright is still used in Scottish English in the original meaning of skilled woodworker.
