scythe pendant charm
A sweet little scythe charm to wear as a pendant, on its own or with a wax seal charm that gives it more context and meaning, or on a charm bracelet to tell a story.
A scythe, or sickle, is a tool with a long curved blade used for cutting crops such as grass or wheat.
- symbolism -
In heraldry, the scythe represents the hope of a fruitful harvest.
It might be seen with a wheat sheaf, that amber grain bundle symbolic of one reaping life’s bountiful harvest and that the harvest of ones hopes have been secured.
In Freemasonry the scythe is an emblem of time, which cuts the brittle thread of life, and launches us into eternity. Here you may see Father Time, the old bearded man, with an hour glass in one hand and a scythe in the other.
It’s also said that the scythe represents the crescent moon, with two paths on death. One leads to the Moon, the path of reincarnation and the other leads to the Sun which is the path of liberation from reincarnation.
The Grim Reaper wearing his dark hooded cloak and carrying a scythe, began personifying death in 14th century, reminds us that Death reaps the souls of sinners. Just as harvesters used the scythe to reap or harvest crops that were ready to be plucked from the earth, thus humans are plucked from the earth when they die.
