An antique 19th century hand turned wood and brass wax steal stamp with a nice patina from age.
The stamp matrix is a hand engraved wafer cross hatched design.

It's not clear whether the cross hatch matrix was used as the wax seal, by impressing in hot wax, or if it was used to break up a hardened wax seal on a letter or document.

Besides being an interesting seal for your collection, it makes a great tool to make impressions in art work, for example an encaustic artist or a potter or one who works in clay or sculpture.

- approximate measurement - 3 5/8" (90mm) tall

- matrix measurement - 3/4" (20mm)
