History of PUT & TAKE
It is said that the PUT-N-TAKE game was created by a soldier in the trenches during WW1 (1914 - 1918) and that the PUT-N-TAKE spinning top was fashioned from a brass bullet.
The spinner has six sides, each with a different direction: ALL IN, ONE IN, TWO IN, ALL OUT, ONE OUT, TWO OUT
It’s likely that when the game was played in the trenches, it was played with cigarettes.
Each soldier playing would put a cigarette in the pot, the first player would spin the top and would put in or take out the number of cigarettes indicated face up on the top. Each soldier would take a turn, continuing the game until the pot was empty.
The game continued to be really popular in Northern England pubs during the 1920’s - 1930’s.
Put and take is a teetotum, a type of gambling spinning top with letters or numbers on its multiple sides, in which all players contribute to a pool and the result of each spin indicates whether each player contributes to or takes from that pool ... a game of chance.

Impressed with history!
