An old rustic crow wax seal necklace pendant, a lovely gift for a good friend.
- description -
The crow is speaking, depicted by the open beak, and its tail feathers well defined, walking, with both feet shown with distinct toes. The crow walks under a 6 pointed star and is surrounded by a Latin legend in Lombardic script. I cannot determine the message, but I do know that the message begins with a cross and is followed by an S, an abbreviation for sigillum or ‘the seal.’ Probably the name and title of the seal owner follows this.
Crows are very social birds, sometimes forming flocks in the millions. They are inquisitive and sometimes mischievous, good learners, problem-solvers and are considered to be among the worlds most intelligent animals.
We often consider a crow to be an omen... good or bad, depending on the context.
- symbolism -
In heraldry, the crow represents a strategist in battle, one who is watchful for friends and divine providence. The six pointed star represents celestial goodness, excellence and a noble person.
