Make an impression with this important large and lovely European 19th century rose flower crest and crown intaglio desk wax seal.
Research has not yet led me to the first intended of this desk seal with a coronet crown on top and below a shield filled with what looks like three Tudor shaped roses.
The bronze intaglio matrix is fastened to a light wood turned handle with some little nibbles which commensurates with age and use.
The matrix top edge is stamped HIRCHOWITZ. and the bottom edge is stamped LIBAU. The numbers 2865 have been painted to the top of the handle, likely to record the seal as part of a museum, or other, important collection.
- approximate height - 3 1/8" (80mm)
- matrix measurement - almost 1 "x 3/4" (24mm x 20mm)
- metal - likely bronze but possibly brass
- handle - light colored turned wood
