A large and different skull and crossbones fob seal, the skull and bones intaglio carved in carnelian and encased in an ornate floral rolled gold fob ... ready to make an impression!
I'm not sure if the antique fob seal dates back to the Georgian era (1714 - 1830), as it looks very different than other skull and bone seals of that period so perhaps it dates back to the Victorian era (1837 - 1901).
- approximate height measurement - 1 3/8" (35mm)
- matrix measurement -3/4" x 1" (20mm x 24mm)
- metal - it is not solid gold but likely a gilt gold, also called rolled gold, which consists of a thin layer of gold that's mechanically bonded or heat-fused to a base metal and then rolled out to create jewelry and give the illusion of gold but much less expensive.
All sales final on antique wax seals - no returns
